This was a lovely way to spend a few hours (or a day, if you have time). Beautiful gardens with room for children to run around, exploring the quarry garden - another world, like walking through CS Lewis's wardrobe - the castle, and the woods. There are often art exhibitions there, to offer something more for the adults. Disabled access is good (speaking from personal experience!) and staff are very friendly.
My top tips:
Bring your own lunch and drinks - the tea room is expensive. It can be rather expensive to get in - £8 per adult - unless you are members of English Heritage.
