Recommended to me by almost everyone I know who’s visited Belfast, and described as ‘the most beautiful bar in the world’ they weren’t wrong. No matter how long you sit inside The crown, you could never take in every little detail. There are elaborate wood carvings, mosaic tiles, stained glass windows and painted mirrors everywhere you turn. If you’re lucky enough to find an empty ‘snug’ (there’s 10 of them) you can shut the door and imagine you have your own private bar. But the most wonderful thing about The Crown has to be the atmosphere – relatively untouched for over a century, you could be forgiven for thinking Victoria was still on the throne and laudanum was tuppence a bottle.

My top tips: Get there early to avoid the evening crowds.
