I had heard a lot about this salon through facebook and in the media, and so after a couple of aborted attempts to cut my 3 year olds hair in a normal hairdressers I decided to book an appointment. It's a hairdressers dedicated to children. They play DVDs and the smaller kids sit in toy cars to have their hair cut rather than chairs. It's located in Whitley Bay in North Tyneside and is close to the metro station. To be honest I wasn't impressed when I called in to book. The woman on the desk asked my son's age and name with a degree of 'couldn't care less' and wrote a shortened version of his name in the book. When I corrected her she said she couldn't fit his whole name in! I left with an appointment and on the way home nearly rang to cancel. On appointment day my husband and I took our 3yo and I felt a little anxious about how this would go. I was expecting the worst. But in fact it went very well. We had taken along our own DVD as our son has an obsession with a certain cbeebie programme and we weren't sure if they'd have a copy (they didn't - although had pretty much anything else kids might be interested in). Our son chose the red car and wasn't keen on getting his hair cut at all - but with a lots of encouragement, a packet of snacks and the quick scissor action of Tanya, hair cut was achieved and was relatively painless for all involved! When we were paying she suggested we bring him back regularly so he can get used to her and the salon - so we booked him in for 3 weeks. We've just been for the 2nd haircut and he was much better than before. Although Tanya didn't cut his hair this time as we expected. But the lady who did do it was also very quick and very good with our son. We've booked again for another 3 weeks. My son has speech problems and so we sign to each other. I explained this to the staff and they told us they are going to go on a signing course so that they can support children with communication / hearing difficulties. And for this reason, I am going to give them 5 instead of 4 stars. I look forward to seeing them signing in the future with my son.
My top tips:  Pick up loyalty card, have 5 haircuts and get the 6 one free! It only costs £5.50 for a scissor cut for a 3 year old.
