My family (3 boys aged 5, 3 & 5months) have an interest in wildlife, and this museum proved a great visit for a rainy day. After undergoing an extensive refurbishment, the Hancock now displays hi-tech exhibitions such as the "wildlife wall" with touch-screen display descriptions of the creatures on show. Most are stuffed but a few are live as well. The star of the show for my kids was the full size T-Rex skeleton in the natural history section. There are also roman & egyptian artifact areas although my kids are a bit young for this. The museum may, at first glance, seem a little small, but i think this is just due to the 'open plan' layout which is so different to it's previous incarnation. There are two cafes that provide high quality cooked-on-site food that is reasonably priced. The kids menus are also well considered. Overall I would highly rate this museum (especially as it's free admission) to spend a good three hours of your time.
My top tips:
Dont forget to let the kids visit the play library
