Set up in the hills of Lancaster historic city centre, Ashton Memorial is a folly built by industrialist Baron Ashton in memory of his wife. It is a beautiful piece of architecture and offers fantastic views of Lancaster and the surrounding area, including Morecambe Bay. Included in the grounds is a butterfly house, a free flying exotic birds enclosure and a mini 'beast' cave.
My top tips:
This is a great place to visit for a nice peaceful afternoon out. A walk around the grounds is very relaxing and romantic. I don't have kids but the butterfly house and other animal exhibits will no doubt by enjoyable by kids of most ages, it certainly interested us.
