A lovely log-cabin holiday village just a short walk from a lovely sandy beach on the Solway Firth. We took our three girls there for the last week of the school holidays and they loved it. The site has a bar/restaurant which is very child friendly and there is also a small swimming pool and sauna. Sandyhills is just down the road and only a short drive from loads of castles, playgrounds and lovely beaches. We didn't have great weather while we were there, but put on a pair of wellies and a raincoat and enjoy. This is the only holiday I have ever been on and thought I would like to go back there. A week wasn't long enough, we didn't get to see and do everything there is around there. Will definitely be going back. Only takes 2 hours from Gateshead stopping at Gretna Green Outlet Village. Retail therapy!!
My top tips: Drummuir Farm Ice Cream ***** mouth-watering ice creams and sundaes. Gem Rock in Creetown is great for any children/adult who likes rocks and fossils. Sooooo many castles not enough time. Threave Castle only accessible in fine weather as you have to go across in a boat. Drumlainrig has an excellent adventure playground for older children 6+. Dalton Pottery great for a rainy day. Children can paint almost anything with pens and paint and you only have to wait 35 mins whilst they bake it, but they have a cafe and a shop to keep you amused, as well as two painted cows outside!
