I have to agree with leisak about Beamish, its a brilliant full day out, for all ages. I love the fact that everything is real, the staff are dressed for the era and you get a chance to really feel what it was like to live in 1913 and 1825. My favourite bits are the visit around the pit cottages where the staff are making clippy mats or baking bread. All of the buildings were moved from their real homes in the North East, brick by brick to the museum and recreated on site. I also like the shops where you can visit the old fashioned sweet shop and buy sweets from the era. There's a school house, railway station, trams, farm, pit cottages, mine, band stand, dentists house, manor house, bank and loads more. You could quite easily spend the whole day there. There is a gift shop and toilets on site.
My top tips: Pick up a map at the entrance to make sure you don't miss anything. The tram will take you to most of the exhibits if you don't feel like walking. Although nothing is too far away.

Beamish is the North of Englands open air museum telling the story of people from the North East from 1825 and 1913. Unlike most museums Beamish is not a museum where everything is kept behind glass. There are costumed staff telling the story of how it was in the past. With lots of events taking place through out the year. New for 2009 is the Beamish Unlimited pass £16 for adults £10 children 5/16 or a family pass £32/£46 This lasts for one year from date of purchase which is great as you can visit as many times in the year for no extra cost. There are real Trams to ride, A Victorian fairground, Steam trains to ride all included in entrance price. No extra costs other than if you are wanting to eat ,although plenty of picnic areas if you prefer to take your own. Small gift shop selling toys to local produce and gifts and a sweet shop in Town selling a range of sweets from the time. Website address www. Beamish.org.uk for more information.
My top tips: Take along your own picnic. Get there early open from 10am plenty to do right up until closing at 5pm.
