An oasis of calm just a few miles from the city centre. We have a nearly 3 year old and he loves going to the Botanical Gardens and has done since we first discovered it a year ago. The things he likes best are the fish in the ponds in the glasshouse, the parrots, one of which talks, the playground, the sensory playground and most of all, the giant spider in the children-designed garden.
My top tips:    It may seem small, but there are lots of different bits to the gardens, so do take the time, on different visits if you have small children, to discover more. The other tip is not to expect too much of the catering, there is a cafe, but it's not great, so you may wish to supplement by bringing some of your own snacks. Most importantly though is the cost. To get in for a single admission the price is very expensive, but if you live in or near Birmingham a season ticket makes it very reasonable.
