Situated right next to Cannon Hill Park, the nature centre is a bit like a step back in time to an old-fashioned eclectic zoo. It is a low-cost zoo which I think is owned by the council. It boasts a bizarre range of animals, from rabbits and guinea pigs to red pandas and wallabys. There is also a small playground, an old-fashioned greasy cafe and an indoor soft play area for toddlers (think covered foam area rather than ball pools). It's so cheap that it is always an option for a visit, but sadly during the winter it is only open at weekends.

My top tips:
If you want to extend your day trip you can always follow your visit by a walk into next door Cannon Hill Park.
