Blackfriars is a traditional British restaurant in the heart of Newcastle\'s city walls. It claims to be the oldest dining room dating back to the 13th century and with the complimentary decor to the old building it certainly adds a certain degree of atmosphere for a fantastic meal. The food itself is wonderful using all local north east ingredients from a number of farms throughout the region - even the place mats show you were everything comes from, so you get a real local feel. I had the north sea fish cake and breast of pigeon - all cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. As such a fussy eater that I am, I was willing to try anything as everything sounded so wonderful!
My top tips:
Try one of the local beers the restaurant had on offer. It is nice that it supports local breweries such as Wylam and Durham breweries - the perfect way to start your meal!
