I took my 15 month old son to the centre. It was a really quiet in the centre as its during term time, so we virtually had the run of the place to ourselves. All the exhibits were open – however, there are height restrictions on a couple of exhibits so we had to give them a miss. To be honest, I had a great time but it was a little bit old for my son. I think it’s probably more suited to age 5 and over.
There is a large planetarium theatre showing a really interesting film on stars which was amazing. My son loved the darkness of the theatre, he fell asleep! There is also a motion ride simulator (height restriction) but which I’ve heard is great fun. They do live Science shows, although there were none while we there. The exhibits are wide ranging including Arctic and Deserts, Cities, Human Life and Inside DNA. They are changing the exhibits on a regular basis, including dinosaurs coming very soon. At the moment outside the centre is an ice rink although this is only on until February, but apparently comes back every year from mid November. There is a café and shop and a larger restaurant inside. The restaurant was closed when we visited, so I can’t comment on the food, but the café sell Starbucks coffee, sandwiches, hot meals, and cakes and pastries. It’s reasonably priced. We had a nice afternoon in the centre and it definitely was an interesting day out, something I would do again when my son is a little older. (I did find out that the centre runs pre Schooldays which might be a better bet for me). The staff were friendly and helpful. It cost £7.65 for me and was free for under 4s.
