Dalby Forest is great place to visit for both kids and adults alike. The forest is within the North Yorks Moors National Park, not far from Thornton-le-Dale. There is an admisson charge of £7 per car to enter the forest but there is a very pleasent drive. In the middle of the forest there is a lovely visitor centre with interactive games for kids on sustainable energy and teaches children (and adults) all about the wildlife that enhabits the forest. Something every visitor attraction needs is a great coffee shop, Dalby Forest did not disappoint, the sponge cake was amazing!! Adjacent to the visitor centre there is a well equipped playpark with a stream running by and there's a great bike hire place called Purple Mountain, I think. For the kid inside every adult there's also a 'Go Ape' high ropes course which is always a laugh! We went with our 2 year old son and spent a good 6 hours playing around and driving to the different stops throughout the forest drive. There is another playpark throughout the drive which is aimed towards a slightly older child of 4+.
My top tips:
I would highly recommend the pontoon picnic spot over looking the lake at Staindale with plenty of ducks to feed if you're with kids or quite romantic if you're not! We took a gentle stroll around the lake with a pram which was no problem. All in all a great day out, we had good weather which also helped!
