Botanical gardens owned by Durham University. Fairly small but with a range of types of garden. There's plenty of informative and interesting signs about the plants.

My top tips: They give out a free map (which you have to return) but the route on the map doesn't make much sense - you' re better off making up the route yourself. Mobility scooter for hire.
