A trip to Edinburgh would not be complete without a trip to the Castle. Standing proud at the top of the Royal Mile, even a visit to the courtyard outside offers fantastic views of Edinburgh. The Castle is a personal favourite of mine, largely as I got engaged here but even long before that I used to love visiting here. Kids and adults of all ages will love the history of the place and being able to climb around on the turrets and cannons is great fun. The Castle also houses the Scottish Crown Jewels, always worth a look, and just the sheer grandiose of the Royal Banqueting Hall makes that climb to the top worthwhile.
My top tips:
If you can schedule a visit around 1pm you will here the famous 1 o'clock gun being sounded from inside the Castle walls - always impressive!
