Useful Information

These woods are a hidden gem if you like walking with the kids. The woods are set on a hillside close to Redcar and New Marske. You can walk through them on various levels on the hillside. It is a great place for the kids to play and explore. If you are lucky you may even see a deer or two (they are very shy so you must keep very still and quiet if you see one) The views are great from the car park where you can see over Wilton, way out to sea and down the coast as far as Saltburn. If the time of year is right you can pick blackberries, elderberries (great for wine) and sloe berries(sloe gin!) In the car park there several bird feeders and they really attract some unusual birds (as well as the common ones) and squirrels. This is a great free attraction (wear suitable shoes as it can be quite muddy when it is wet). The woods can be found off the A174. Take the turn off at the Redcar roundabout and head for New Marske. When you get to the turn off for New Marske go straight on up a fairly steep hill. At the top turn sharp left and after about 100 yards you are in the car park. If you are feeling peckish head into Redcar sea front for some great fish and chips or turn left out of the car park and head for historic Guisborough.
My top tips:  Free day out with or without kids
