Two friends and I visited the Malmaison Brasserie last week for our Christmas meal out. Having heard lots of lovely things about the Malmaison hotel we were excited. We ate in the brasserie, which was small and intimate and fairly quiet. We chose the festive xmas menu which cost £25.00 per head for 3 courses and coffee. The food was lovely. I felt the service was good but a little too efficient, plates cleared almost as soon as we'd finished eating - but this was probably because the place was quiet. The ambience was nice although I felt the brasserie was a bit bright and could do with dimming the lights a bit, but overall we had a lovely time. Before the meal we had a drink in the bar next to the restaurant, which was nice and we got a seat in the window overlooking the Tyne. Service was good, and although I can't really fault the place, I expected something a little classier. However, prices are very reasonable and the location great.

My top tips: Have a drink in the bar beforehand.
