The Pets Corner is a small collection of farm and other animals in a corner of the vast Jesmond Dene Park. There are goats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, birds, hens, peacocks that you can get close to. There is also a café and usually an ice cream van on site. There are plenty of places to sit and have picnic including a dedicated picnic area with a playground. Its great for kids of all ages but probably best for children aged 3 – 12. Great place to go for a walk without the kids too, as part of a visit to the Dene itself. The highlight for me was the look on my 9 month old sons face when the cockerel crowed right next to his pram. Absolute wonder! There is a café which has toilets including disabled and baby changing facilities and high chairs. It’s not a big place and probably will get busy in summer, but it was spaced well so I could get the pram right next to the table. There is also seating outside the café too.
Parking was plentiful (although it was mid week) and it was close to the animals. I got the metro to West Jesmond and walked to the park which took me about 20 minutes. It’s probably the same difference from Jesmond metro station.
My top tips:
1
.
I noticed that when asked the café were willing to heat baby bottles in their microwave.
2. If you don’t want to pay for food in the café, there is a good sandwich shop just up the hill (near the big church) which does great sandwiches called Dene’s Deli.
