Now an unused lighthouse that is more a tourist attraction. At low tide visitors can cross the causeway onto the island and explore the rockpools as well as the actual lighthouse itself. We went on new years day so the exhibition was not open however most other times it is open along with the gift shop. It is possible to climb to the top of the lighthouse where you are treated to a panoramic view of the North East coast. We have done this on a previous trip and is worth the couple of quid to get to the top. Kids love the idea of being on an island and the screams of excitement can be heard all the time you are there. If the tide is well out you can walk out quite a way. Great for anyone wanting to take photos. There is a car park on the mainland and is not expensive. There is usually an ice cream van there too.

My top tips:  Wrap up warm. It gets cold especially when you are on the exposed rocks Dont go rockpooling alone. Go with someone. It can be very slippy and hazardous. Watch out for the tide especially in Spring. The tides turn very quickly and you do not want to be caught out getting back. The tide timetable is displayed on the approach to the lighthouse on the mainland. If the tide is in, take a walk along the waterfront and take in the sea air!
