Talking Tots is a fantastic weekly group designed to encourage young children to communicate with confidence. There are different groups depending on age (12mths to 5 years). I have been taking my 3 year old son for a while. The atmosphere is very calm and chilled with a strong but subtle focus on encouraging social confidence, listening and attention, turn taking and pre-literacy skills. This is a fantastic way to give children an early taste of the skills so necessary in later life (school onwards). My older daughter lacks confidence and has really struggled socially at nursery and school, especially amongst children her own age. I am certain this would have made a big difference to her if she had had the chance to try it. Other Mums from the group I attend have also remarked at how they have noticed a big difference in their children's listening and attention skills as the weeks progress. The sessions enable the quieter children to communicate confidently but also, gently encourage those who are already confident to take turns, listen and pay attention so I believe Talking Tots is invaluable, whatever the nature of your child. Amanda Smith who runs the groups is really bright, friendly and patient - especially with the children!
