Wallington Hall is a National Trust Property set in it own large grounds near Cambo in Northumberland. The house and gardens are well worth seeing with interest for both adults and kids. There are wooded areas where the kids can explore and there is a large walled garden which should give plenty of interest for the adults. There are walks through a variety of lawns, shrubberies and woodland, with water features, lakes, buildings, sculpture and a wildlife hide. The house interior has some great plasterwork, ceramics, paintings, needlework and a collection of dolls' houses. The Central Hall is decorated to look like an Italian courtyard, with a series of scenes of Northumbrian history. If you are not a member of the National Trust you can choose to only visit the grounds for a reduced entrance fee. There is a nice restaurant where a variety of meals and sandwiches can be bought. The costs for the house and gardens are £8.80 for an adult, £4.40 for a child or £22 for the whole family. The costs for the Grounds and gardens only are £6.10 for an adult, £3.05 per child or £15.25 for the whole family. In general I think it is a great place to visit but I have reduced my number of stars given because of the costs (if you are not an NT member).
My top tips:  It is a great place to visit at any time of the year - we have been in December when there was a heavy frost with the lakes frozen over but thoroughly enjoyed it (wrap up well)
