Warkworth River Walk
 no website  Location Map
Warkworth is a beautifully maintainted little Northumberland village which is dominated by its Castle at the top of a high hill and surrounded by the River Coquet. The village is full of quaint old houses and shops with a Medieval Church just off the main street and Medieval bridge (with its own little jailhouse) on the outskirt of the village. The village is within walking distance to the beach but the main attraction is the riverside path which is very pleasant for walking. There are some great views of the castle from several places along the walk. There is also the "Hermitage" which is a small two floor religous building cut out of the sandstone on the river bank. The Hermitage can only be reached via a ferry and is maintained by English Heritage (the price is £3 for Adults and £1.50 for children for the ferry and entrance to the hermitage). One of the nice things about Walkworth is the lack of commercialisation and the unchanged feel about the village. I have been visiting Warkworth since childhood and never tire of it. Highly recommend a visit.
My top tips: There are lots of parking spaces down by the river and parking is free. Warkworth is very close to Amble Fishing Port and Marina where there is also many places of interest.
