Today I took my mum and 2 children (aged 3 1/2 and 1 1/2) to Washington Wetland Centre. I haven't been for about 2 years and forgot how nice it was. Lots of lovely walks around ponds full of ducks, geese, swans and flamingoes too. Entrance was quite pricey but under 4's are free, adults £7.95, children 4-16yrs are £4, family ticket is £21.70 (2 adults and 2 children) but we enjoyed it so much I'm thinking of getting an annual pass - 2 adults £52 or a family annual ticket is £62! They often have special events throughout the year and you can often get vouchers in local papers/magazines too. You can get feed for 80p a bag or £2 for 3 bags, but don't feed the goat's it will make them ill!! There is also a nursery for the baby chicks too! We are thinking of getting the annual pass now as the 1st chicks have just hatched so we will be able to watch them grow until the leave the nursery into the main ponds. There's picnic tables around the park so you can take a pack lunch and there is a cafe/restaurant too if you prefer not to carry it with you.....sandwiches abut £3, Jacket potato about £4.50. There's a water play area too and a couple of slides.
My top tips: Visit http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/washington/ for more info   DON'T forget your wellies!!!! Wear something warm if it's cold as it's pretty exposed up there.
